Southeastern Alberta | We do it often. Usually only buy new seed when we switch varieties, but sometimes with a good variety will buy some more if we are short. Never have seen a yield increase from the certified over stuff saved and cleaned.
There actually is some merit to the idea that saved seed may be slightly better for the local area depending on where the certified seed was grown. It has perhaps adapted ever so slightly to the practices and climate of the farm that it is grown on. Not sure if it is a measurable difference ever, but interesting to think about none the less. | |
