NWC Ohio | Research Roundup ready seed. As long as its the same variety, it is bin run as long as the grower /dealer decides to keep that variety/number. They buy the seed stock once and that's it, just pay royalties/tech fees on sold units every year after. This is why a variety you love might get the axe from your salesman, as the company wasn't making money from selling new seed stock. New seed stock equals new variety.
I've personally seen/planted seed stock with 60% germ. Company pushing the variety to market just told us to plant it heavier and gave us extra seed to compensate for the low germ. Growing conditions and fertility are bigger factors on producing quality seed than the the year the genetics was placed into the bean.
Get a good seed cleaner (hiring a good guy to clean it works too) and saving your seed will save you some $$. | |
