Subject: RE: Buying T-bone steaks

Both are a great meal. I have never heard of a T-Bone being called a 7 Bone, to me that's a 7-Bone chuck roast but as sure as there are miles of road in this country there are a million different ways to describe all sorts of different things in this world.

I prefer the Porterhouse, it really is two different steaks, one lean and tender the other marbled and a bit tougher on the tooth(not saying it's tough, but it is not as tender as the loin side). My wife and I like it because I cook it up and she gets the tenderloin and I get the strip steak. We both are full and happy and I only had to cook and buy one steak. Around here there aren't butchers shops any more. One local store has a nice consistent meat counter, Fareway, and the other HyVee has some decent stuff but they price it too high. I can usually buy the porterhouse from Fareway for $1-2 more per pound than the T-Bone, it's worth it to me.

No matter what you call it this cut can be a great meal if you are handy with a fire.
