The best thing for the whole ethanol industry / bio fuel in Canada and US would be too drop the mandate and then when economics work you may be 85% ethanol or 5% or someplace in between .....and have pumps that allow consumers too blend what they feel ......... then Farmers and consumers can make there own choices
If we had a truly free market, and access to retail pumps that would be great.
The petroleum industry is rather highly integrated and controlled by a very few big players. Big Oil would very quickly squash bio fuels and return to zero of anything they don't control from ground to pump nozzle.
I notice the biggest resistance to ethanol comes from people in states that are oil producers. It seems for the most part there are issues with bad fuel because of ethanol only in pro Big Oil states, while folks in non oil producing states seem to have few problems. I'm sure that's just random, tho. *
