NCIA | I hear you mikado. I'm in the exact situation as you. I'm still young enough but losing interest in the industry. I often look at my facilities and think if I could snap my fingers and make it disappear I would. My buildings are good enough it would be a shame to let them sit but it's getting easier to do that. Downsized a bit, now we just fill the barns after the crop is planted and again when harvest is over. If there isn't any money to be made I guess we'll let them sit empty. Have to get used to the idea that my best years in the hog buisisness are behind me. So glad we stayed on the open market and didn't tie into a source of feeder pigs. It would be nice to make use of the pits and convert them into cattle barns. But by the time a guy would replace the slats and columns for cattle, jack up buildings and so forth it would probably be a spendy half a$$ cattle shed. Good luck | |
