Norwich, ND
Last spring we did roughly half and half spreading on top of ground/spreading and coultering in only reason we coultered is to dry it out a little and mainly warm the ground up since we were trying to seed in mid April with ground temps in low 40's. Have not yet seen any difference in working it in vs. laying on top of ground as long as you get .25 rain in 7 to 10 days after its applied, which the last few springs catching a nice rain hasn't been a problem in our area. It is hard to get use to just laying it out there and hope for a rain but it has been working for us. I will also mention we have fall applied NH3 into bean stubble with knifes on chisel plow and that works good to but that isn't no tilling. With all that being said we had all of our bean ground that will go to wheat spread 1st part of October and caught a nice rain afterward and will expect the same results as we've seen in years past.
