Have owned both. Main issue I had with the wider 3 pt applicators was they tended to "walk". Other is they take a lot of weight off the front end when turning due to the weight of the bar & the drag from a large tank that the hitch point is high when the bar is raised. Some say that the 3pt is better for sidedressing as they damage less crop on the end. That mau be true with a smaller bar but when you get up into a 13 or 15 knife the tractor needs duals to carry the weight. We run a 15 knife sidedressing & get along fine dropping the duals off so don't have anymore tires on the ground than would if we ran a 3pt.
