The other thing that comes to mind is something to do with the broiler element. Could it be coming on when it's not supposed to? I burnt several things when our oven was new before I figured out that when it's on pre-heat the top and bottom elements are both on to heat up faster. Might look at your upper element or the controller that runs it.
