I bought a 10" android tablet from tigerdirect ( wholesale electronics online) and it works great. The only requirement is that it have android version 4.4 or later I think.
The one I use cost $80.00 including a keyboard.
No phone needed. Just install the app on the tablet, it sends and receives from the booster on the control. So much better than a phone!
