Scab infection is totally dependent on flowering stage and the weather you have when wheat is flowering. The scab spores are present everywhere . If your going to get it , not much you can do about it. The spores will blow in from your neighbors fields of standing stalks. Use of resistant seed will help a little. Edit ; most all no-till wheat in our area is drilled into standing stalks.
