NE KS | HMS has netbiter along with a couple of other offerings for cellular, web based, or other remote communication capabilities. These are designed for industrial use where someone might be looking for remote management/control, remote monitoring, or for a gateway. I'm not sure that this fits your application necessarily, but if anyone else comes across this I think this could certainly be a viable option for other projects.
