It looks like a blue tailed skink, but they aren't native to North America.

Apparently it's a young American five lined skink.

Marion County, IL.
We have them at our place. They really seem to like the wood house. Kids think they are pretty neat, of course so does the dog and the cats.............when we have cats.

West Texas

Have several many-lined skinks in Momma's rock garden. very similar but has more lines and the tail is more of a brownish color. The big on is about 14 to 15 inches long and the small ones are no more than 5 or 6 inches. They do eat grasshoppers so they have a forever home.

Very cool pics guys. Wish we had more reptiles in my neck of the woods. We supposedly have the skink shown in my state but the only four legged reptiles I've seen are newts and salamanders.

Sorry Haoleguy, but newts and salamanders are amphibians not reptiles. Supposed to be skinks in my neck of the woods too, but I've never seen one. I think maybe they're pretty shy!

They can shed their tail if they ever get caught. It grows back just fine. Our cats are the cause of lots of tail regrowing!
