Dearfield Co.
count the blink blinks and see what code its showing. Low voltage , low water, high oil temp are the main shut downs with a check engine light but it could be lots of things one being non volatile memory fault in the ecm due to the little battery going dead in the ecm. Or it could be several faults. Like others have said check connections and I would pay particular attention to the cables . On those years of trucks they cast the ecm wires into the bridge cables and they would corrode inside and the draw of things would create enough heat to cause a shut down.

On a detroit each circuit we will call them will have a constant flow of voltage when the engine is running---------if the sensors are returning to much or to little it will throw a light and if it is any of the shut down circuits it will kill the engine.
