I farm 5 fields that the gas line to Superior runs thru and I can see it in at least 2 places. The gas company does not do anything with it anymore. They actually made a deal with a neighbor to plant a grass strip in the middle of his field and they pay "rent" on it every year. We had the gas man walk the line several years ago and most of it is within 12". This line was put in during the 30's as near as I can tell from reading the abstracts.

Several years ago grandpa hit the line with a ripper about like the one in the pic. Dad said it pulled the tractor sideways until the shank jumped over the line.

We had a big ball of fire, when a 36" high pressure gas line blew nearby a few years ago.
It blew on its own nobody hit it. I have 2 large intrastate lines that cross much of my
property.

Take care, don't mess with gas lines.
