Leesburg, Ohio | We feed 50 head of our own steers every year. We frequently do just what you are saying. We grind a batch and fill feed tank, and then while the grinder is hooked up, grind another batch and leave in the grinder for later in the week.
Right now the grinder is full of ground corn only. We are between groups of cattle, and between corn crops, so we ground and mixed feed and re-filled the feed tank for the next bunch of feeders to be weaned next month, and re-filled the grinder with ground corn so we could sweep the corn bin out and have it ready for the new crop. We will add supplement later. This way we have two batches of feed on hand for the next group without worrying about how soon we will be able to shell new corn for feed.
I would recommend watching out for varmints...coons, rats, mice in the grinder...might want to put something over the hammer mill hopper so coons can't get inside the mill...it has happened. | |
