West of Broken Bow | Depending on the make and model, your washing machine may have a small rubber hose that connects to the door boot seal on the bottom. On my Maytag the front panel has to be removed in order to access it.
The little hose had clogged with pet hair. This caused water to stand in the seal and thus was the source of the smell.
Might want to check your machine to make sure the hose isn't clogged. I think some early Maytag Neptunes didn't have such a hose to drain the water in between the tub and door. The door boot seal would mildew in no time.
