I don't recall seeing that yellow streaking that shows on the ceiling. I would say something is wrong, and changing light rings is a good place to start. Change the rings and see if your wife changes her mind.
The streaking here, and in another picture further down on the page is most likely just a trick of the camera. The shutter speed and the 60-hertz flicker of the bulb coincided just right.
