I'd agree on your consideration for age of the guy (definitely sgains good business decisions, but ag is not a noral business). I like seeing new guys get in (and I'm wor king on some oportunites to expand on that). I actually considered doing a whole operation sale, but with how GAP would deal with it, and thus guy's situation, I think selling breeding stock and some equipment to him would work better for him. Again, not in line with business thinking, but it is important to me that if I do sell they go to someone who will continue to supply the program, since the plant owner was instrumental in getting us going...
I know I'll be sad that day I take the last pig in to the plant, but I am working on some stuff that would keep me involved in the industry, and if in 6 years when the youngest graduates and the kids are thinking they want to get involved the facilities will be here. | |
