Any premium I see to them are because 1)they are a working herd, farrowing spread out for even farrowing load and eventual cash flow, 2)they are single source, won't bring a bug in from mingling stock (had one of our group do that, brought PRRS into a startup herd of 50 gilts...), and 3) these sows know how to lay down and have babies unassisted, and have strong maternals that are needed for this style of farrowing.

I hate farrowing gilts like this. To me a 4 year old sow has more value than a gilt at a start up farm. As much as the market pigs are worth, a sow that raises 18/year versus a gilt that might do 10-14 the first year, that's an extra $2-4000 cash flow for the first year of startup...
