Friend who grew up on a farm next door is now an engineer with Deere in Waterloo (salary position, but he's not afraid to work. He's going places, including I think at least 14 trips to Brazil so far setting up a new factory down there.) When things were booming, he told me they were frustrated because they were offering and needing lots of overtime from people in hourly jobs. He said you wouldn't believe how many only cared about having enough cash to buy groceries for the next week, and weren't going to work a single minute past their 40 hours. I'll bet some of those people were surprised that the job went away when grain prices and machinery sales stagnated. |
