So what exactly is the question?
She doesn't want to just dump it in there lap? Or she is afraid they will blow it all at once? Or afraid they will be embarrassed?
I'd say just be generous and make a habit of buying useful things like clothes for the kids. Offer to fill their gas tank up. Take them out to eat on a regular basis. Offer to pay for a babysitter.
