Subject: reusable shopping bags

CNY
This morning on the news I heard that a 5 cent charge on plastic bags is increasing the use of reusable bags. Who here uses them in place of plastic? My impression is a lot of folks here would scoff at it and call users "granola heads", "tree huggers", Liberals, etc. My daughter got us started with some from Wegman's, ( a regional super market chain). We have been using them for several years. Still end up with enough plastic bags to put in overboots.
We have also started recycling silo plastic. Used to burn that but it was outlawed, then stuffed in the dumpster which went to the landfill. To us that seemed as bad as burning, just pushing the problem down the road. Now there is a service that goes around and bales it.
