We just use a separate 2 inch pump and pump into the Chem-handler from the bottom of the tote ..

Put the tote on a scale and hook it in the line before the suction side of the pump. Doesn't get easier the that. Unless you use the measure the tote method for your chemical metering.

Amherst WI
3/4" hose hooked on to a 3/4" pipe about 5 feet long that is plumbed into the auction side of the 2" banjo pump.

I measure the liquid in it and keep a tally of where to be.

Cheap and easy

We switched to scales this year, should have done it years ago! We plumbed into the suction side of the pump and suck out of the shuttles with 2" lines.

Why not just buy a 12V pump and meter. Pump it out, metered. use the right amount. Totes are cheaper than 2.5's. Use the savings o buy a pump the first year, then you have one. Or, as mentioned, an accurate scale. Key word accurate, Not twenty pound breaks.

Edit to add: Sprayer Specialities has stuff reasonably priced, but bought the last pump from Shoup, meter from SS. Buy chemicals through a broker.
His pricing on Lumax was cheaper per gallon then the COOP was buy thirty percent. COuld have bought 50 pumps and meters with savings. Same service, if not better. Product delivered to farm when needed, totes picked up when empty. COOP, we would have to pick up and return.

Same problem. COOP got so big that all they care about is their bonuses. I better stop.

Meters are not as accurate as you want to think and the 12v pumps are slow and horribly unreliable.  I've been gravity feeding my totes into a 30 gallon inductor tank plumbed into the suction side of my 3" pump, I can pump 30 gallons out of it in 15 seconds.  For next year I want to have a better mixing location setup and I plan on having a couple of pallet scales for the totes to sit on and suck them through the suction side of the pump.  You can buy 6,000lb capacity pallet scales that read in 1lb increments for under $400.

I like the sound of your scales. That's cheaper than most unreliable transfer pumps. Where do you buy them from? How are they powered? 12V? No problems bouncing them down the road? I would love to see pictures of your setup.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Most are 120v but a small inverter would run one off a 12v battery.

Does anybody have any experience with those small platform scales? When I checked into them they seemed hesitant to promote them for a mobile application, recommended stationary floor application only? We bought #30,000 cells from scale tec and built our own frame to hold 3 shuttles and have been happy so far. Not doubting anybody, was just curious if anybody has some real world experience with those in a mobile situation.

what are you currently using? we bought the self contained unit from Tru-kleen with a 40 gal and 30 gal inductor, The 30 gallon is sealed off air tight and uses a venture to draw chemical in out of the totes... The 40 gall is just a standard cone type you can take the lid off and dump in other chemicals. It's all on the "push" side of our pump so only clean water is going through our transfer pump. Only catch is it has to be pumping water to create the suction so you have to have your ducks in a row when you start pumping water.
