Subject: RE: Auto Boom Height ?

Southern Illinois

Trimble has a boom height system for the 750 but I have not seen one working in the field. Its much higher priced than Raven normally is once you realize you need an unlock.
Raven's UltraGlide AutoBoom system is the best in the industry today. Most of the time you can tune the numbers once and leave it alone. Obviously there are always limitations. There are also differences depending on the hydraulic system on the sprayer. On CaseIH machines it works awesome. CaseIH however runs with their hydraulic pumps at max pressure standby at all times so there is no lag in oil supply or pressure supplied. The Raven system actively floats the booms with active hydraulic pressure. In otherwords it always has the vales "on". It monitors both the ultrasonic sensors and the boom support hydraulic pressure. If you want you can install ground contact wheels and switch the control to PowerGlide mode. When set this way it only monitors pressure sensors. When setup it only takes about a lb of force of the wheel touching the ground to cause the system to raise the boom up. In this way the wheels just contact the ground barely across the field. This method works for extreme hills and high speed. Most operators prefer to not have ground contact and opt for UltraGlide mode and the ultrasonic height sensors instead.
I have never had a good experience with Norac but perhaps with a different hydraulic system it works better.
