CNY | Came in from my chores last night (Monday) around 7 and heard a throbbing engine sound overhead. My first thought was DC 3 aircraft. Any one my age, mid 70's, will know what I mean. Spotted 3 planes too far up to positively ID, but one was almost certainly a B 25 with double vertical stabilizers and engine nacelles extending behind the wings. The other 2 engine craft appeared similar in size but different otherwise. Hard to be sure because of the humidity but I was thinking B 26. Was not a DC 3/C-47, too small and wrong wing. They were accompanied by a single engine plane impossible for me to ID. I'm in central NY between Binghamton and Utica. The planes were nearly overhead coming from the west and as I watched they turned to NNE possibly toward Rome AFB or perhaps beyond. Is anyone aware of this group of planes or where they would be going? I looked on line for air shows but didn't come up with any thing. | |
