You can also use iTunes to manage your pictures.
An easy way is to use one of these camera card adapters from Apple.
The card adaptor works really nice, stick your camera card into it, plug into the iPad, and import your pics, click on the ones you want.
(The USB version is not as useful as one would think, maybe don't bother with that adaptor unless you know what you can do with it....)
