I run Vista Ultimate and AVG free.

I'd suggest booting into safe mode and running Malwarebytes in safe mode.

I'd uninstall AVG via Iobit uninstaller, or at least check using that program to see if you have it on your computer.  Did you download AVG free and then UPGRADE rather than UPDATE?
