That's what acid brighteners do, they'll clean it but make it look dull.

You can use any of the 5 million hand polishes if you want. Or get some buffing wheels and compounds and go to town. Don't forget a respirator.

Flour, corn starch, etc helps remove residue from the buffing process.

If it's pitted deep you may need to sand.

My old worn out pictures I always use are below. Before acid, after, what acid does to polished aluminum, after sanding after polishing.
