My brother builds pivots, he said you can get prefab poly doglegs now.
I wouldnt be afraid to clean up your fitting and re-use it. Years ago I was having trouble with a large pvc joint and my pipe dealer got me some kind of thick white glue used to fabricate large fittings, never had another problem after that.
