I had similiar problems with a Hesston 6600 diesel. Better cables, new starter and bright connections and better frame to block ground did nothing. Battery tested 800 amps with load meter. Finally put new 1100 amp battery on and starting problems stopped. I figured 800 amps was plenty to start a 4 banger Perkins but it wasn't.
