Subject: RE: Guys that added hyd down force on your planter

jwhit - 7/3/2015 21:23 Has anyone done a check with running a constant down pressure of say 150 lbs vs letting it be automatically controlled? Those maps look great but does it actually mean more bushels in bin?

I'd love to have that data- but it's so subjective to one location and situation, it can be nearly worthless to take 100 miles down the road.  After running Airforce for several seasons, I think my money was better spent going to the IH row unit which is not nearly so sensitive to sidewall compaction.  I still run a 20/20 with sensors but just manually adjust the airbags now.  I'm not ruling out the idea of having hydraulic downforce someday, but I will add one last comment.  If Mother Nature dictates that you are in crop insurance claim territory, she cares not one bit that you spent $40,000 on your planter to achieve "precision" results.
