I believe the Deere charts for ground drive with a contact tire anticipate a certain amount of slip. I heard this some time ago but forget the amount.

My last two Deere planters with ground drive have always planted a bit heavy compared to the charts. This has been verified by the indicated population and seed usage.

Both of these planters used the contact tire drive arrangement. In one particular field there is a pocket of peat soil. When looking at a population map, the population is somewhat lower in that area. Apparently the ground drive slips more in that soil.

When picking the sprocket combination, I sometimes pick the setting one level below my actual desired population.
