Public opinion seems to have already dictated that GMOs are evil and are giving everyone cancer.

Right or wrong, that is how GMO's are viewed by the general public. If you don't think so, go take a walk through Costco and see how much organic and GMO free crap is on the shelves. Now, you and I both know that Costco could care less about organic, but the market is very hungry for organic products, so naturally Costco is going to carry them.

The problem isn't Costco, or organic farmers, the problem is agriculture. We've dropped the ball as far as our public image. There are certain groups striving to improve ag's image (Farm Bureau, Cattlemen's, commodity organizations, etc) but there is never enough time or money to do a good job. Then, the groups like to nitpick at each other. People also expect a 50 state wide organization that represents agriculture, to agree with their own personal stances on everything from abortion to gun control.

Hate to say it, but when agriculture comes under fire, we like to circle the wagons and then start shooting at each other.
