The same problem occurs when us moderns try to read Old English. Ever try to read 'Beowulf' in its original form? Confoozling!

Languages evolve over time, meanings are lost or change, slang becomes standard useage, and kids delight in confounding their elders.

The thought has occurred to me more than once that cave drawings and Egyptian hieroglyphs were the Ancient Worlds way of tweaking the future. For all we know, Mad Magazine and other satire has far deeper roots than we knew!
