Ya know, honestly, as someone who's kids have been through a number of bottle calves and baby goats dieing etc, etc. I'd say it's a good lesson, but I'd also say if it's hopeless give it up and move on. Don't drag it out. There are other dogs. And I say this as someone who has had a few dogs I've been dearly attached to.
