Southeastern Tipton County, Indiana

Joelt - 4/26/2015 14:37 From what I'm seeing so far a wind turbine is no less impactful from a farming standpoint than an oil or gas well being drilled. Any more the oil companies have to lay down 5 acres of caliche to make a pad and then dig a big sludge pit. 2 turbines went up on a piece of ground I rent and after all was said and done I think the overall mess was less than what an oil company normally makes.

It does reduce the number of pilots that are willing to fly on chemicals where they are present.

There can also be issues where the wind farm operators can restrict access to your field no matter how imperative it is that field work needs done. I'm not aware if this has yet been an issue here but the language is in the contracts. There have been 2 with broken blades but they happened during winter when access was not needed for farming.
