If you are concerned about mpg and power, get the diesel.
But if you aren't pulling with it, you can buy a lot of gas with what you save between buying a gasser and the powerstroke.
My next farm truck is likely to be a 1/2 ton. They can tow upwards of 12,000 lbs now and weigh a lot less for everyday work/mileage.
