Subject: RE: alfalfa inputs?

Little River, TX

How does this recommendation fit the recommended amounts per ton of hay. ?

175# of 18-46-00
600# of 0-0-60
30# of borax (10% boron so 3# actual)
30# elemental sulfur (90% S)

I hope we all realize we each have different soil needs with our local climate, to fit our management style.

I have noticed that calcium will have an almost level yield change with a wide spread of calcium on alfalfa.

The same is more or less the same for potassium, except there will be a yield gain for increased K % until the K % exceeds some distant level.

While phosphate will show a yield increase with minor changes in P%, The yield will level off fairly quickly and then fall off with additional increases in plant P%.

Most of the other essential elements show similar yield variability with increasing or decreasing plant mineral levels.

To add to the interest if we over fertilize with one of the elements, we can help the yields if we also add or subtract one of other mineral or more of the other minerals. All that is way over my pay grade, with out some blind luck.

I hope you are not as confused as I am.
