If you really must you can apply up to 40 units N first thing in the spring but certainly not any more throughout the year.

Alfalfa and clover are much more hungry for P and K than grass alone, I can tell you that much, here we are throwing liquid manure on these crops like no tomorrow.

I have used 2,4DB and Triad in clover and alfalfa crops, Alfalfa does not like SU chemistry I can tell you.

However, if you get weed grasses, you can use Aramo (tepraloxydim) to wipe them out and it leaves the Alfalfa untouched.

Try blending it with Italian or Hybrid ryegrasses.
