Mid Michigan
$25 dollars an acre wasn't even diddly squat back in the 30's and 40's. I think my grandfather made around 75 cents and hour back then so he could pay off an acre of land on a 40 hour week. Not much. Now flash forward to today. Can I pay off an acre of land in a 40 hour week? Not hardly, unless I make $7000 dollars a week. When I see guys on here that have land in the family for 100 years encouraging young guys to go for broke and buy land I just scratch my head and wonder what they're thinking. The average woking man isn't going to be able to buy large quantities of land at todays prices. Most people would take a mortgage of 30 years to pay off a 40 acre chunk of land around here in michigan. And suffer 30 years of financial hardship trying to do it.
