north-central Indiana west of Fulton | Raining again today, but yesterday I was able get part of a day of nh3 application(only the 3rd day this spring). Started on a small farm of 60 acres my gramdpa bought for $25/acre..... always think of that when working there. Need to look at the abstract to find out when that was ....assume 30s or 40s but don't remember. Mom inherited part of it and we have farmed half of it since the early seventies then I bought the rest from my aunt in '86 for what figured out to $428/acre. Was once 5 fields with a ditch and the C&O RR cutting through it on a 45.....now just 2 fields and the RR gone. Most of the acres probably wasn't even farmed when grandpa bought it....but is good ground now even though a little hilly. Well suited to no till.
I bet 25 dollars an acre seemed like a lot then .
