Subject: Beat the dead horse -wheat pictures

Texas/New Mexico Stateline

Probably everybody is sick of hearing about the pathetic wheat crop. Oh, well. I'm sick of it too. This will be crop #5 consecutively that is awful. Not as awful as the last 4 years, but if we break 15bu on a whole field I will be thrilled. Most of it is going to be 2-12 bu.

Burned up 4" tall stuff out there in the brown spots.

A little better here.  If it were all like this, maybe 8-12 bu.

Short 4" tall stuff already mentioned.  Big rain would probably induce a bunch of late tillering.  Would be a mess trying to harvest.

About the best we got on a consistent basis.  Maybe 12-15bu. if it were all like that.  Dead brown spots are going to kill the average though.

Not going to be very fun cutting when we'll get paid more per bu. from the insurance co. than the elevator.  Makes it hard to justify even running a machine across it.

12" spacing

TAM 111

25# per acre seeding rate.

Will not plant row-crop behind this failed wheat.  Will summer till and likely go back to wheat next fall.  Grazing looks to be the only way to make money dryland farming down here.
