This sounds an awful lot like people that reject Germ Theory... nonsense that germs don't cause disease but are instead attracted to unhealthy tissue.
Insects WILL eat anything given the opportunity. Nature does its best to survive and it will use any method to guarantee a positive outcome. Call it evolution, call it adaption, but shifts happen all the time.
