Eastern North Carolina | Fairly common in our sandy soils to do that here. Most of the time, it's in a minimum till situation with the ripper run at a slight angle ~5% or so to the rows a few weeks ahead of planting. Then, plant right over the old rows. Bean ground going to cotton is the typical situation. Berm tuckers on the ripper or a rolling basket across the back might help if you plan to keep doing this.
