Your not nuts at all. If the bar is thick enough to support the weight you can make anything you want out of it.

I saw someone make a strip till rig out of a field cultivator. He aranged the s-tines to make ten inch wide strips and left the double rolling baskets on the back.

I guess the down side of his machine is not having deep placement of fert in the row. That is not a "must have" thing for him. I can tell you it made beautiful strips in the spring to plant in. Not sure how it would do in 250 bushel corn residue though... Around here we bush hog corn fields and the residue is gone by spring because of our warm winters.
