SW Michigan | As my handle suggests, I'm fairly new at this farming thing. I started a grazing dairy in '09 and have always been very light on machinery and used custom operators. Just a skidloader, rotovator, sicklebar, 13 hole drill w/cultipacker. Not much field work with mostly pasture. My big tractor was a Ford 5000 with tire chains instead of MFWD :-) .
I just bought the acreage next to me which will allow me to grow my silage, some grain corn and/or annuals for baleage.
I also bought the neighbors' 4620 w/duals and powershift (well used but functional). I do have a 12' chisel plow with the tractor, but that's all I've got so far.
I've got a total of about 90 acres tillable of which 40-50 will always be in pasture/hay. So, my question is, what kind/size of tillage equipment would work well with this size tractor and operation?
Thanks, Dan | |
