South West UK | I have a 256GB Samsung 830 as boot drive, and a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO as my second/gaming drive.
After reading all the reviews, it was a contest between intel and Samsung. Samsung got the pitch because they make their own controllers and firmware. Deal done. Would fully recommend them. I can use Samsungs software to check the health of the drive and total writes.
Having said all that, the concerns about reliability are pretty much non-founded. As you mentioned, the lifetime of these drives in daily use is more than acceptable, unless you begin doing insane amounts of writes- in which case you can buy an enterprise standard drive.
I would have a PCI-e drive but they are still quite expensive. | |
