southwestern Pa, on the Mason-Dixon line | I have a cow/calf operator down the road from me that uses plain old bagged ground limestone for bedding.
He claims the proof to this being a good practice is in his soil tests. He says his ph is easy to maintain and he rarely has to spread ag-lime on his crop fields.
1. Wouldn't the ag-lime buffer the benefits of the nitrogen in the manure.
2. If this worked so good, wouldn't we all be throwing a couple sacks of lime on top of every manure spreader load that left the barn.
3.Why would you not use hydrated lime? The cost factor? Too dusty? |
