Ridgway, IL
I believe the efficiency gains from rumensin are quoted between 5-10%. If feed cost is 140/dry matter ton, and you are comparing 7.5:1 to 6.75:1, then the rumensin is dropping cost of gain by 5.25 cents per pound. On a calf fed from 550lb to 1250lb that is worth around 40$ per head.

The lack of implant would be the bigger deal. Several study's showing a rev-xs or similar 2 implant strategy, gains you 75-125lb vs no implant on a 240 day calf fed feeding period. At 1.60/lb = 120-200$ per head. Plus there is some gain in feed efficiency.

Throw in the inconvenience of no antibiotics, and I say it's a break even offer.
