Subject: RE: Manure tank injector style

We use Dietrich sweeps on a Houle 7300 5 shank. We apply around 5000 gallon per acre and it's a little hard to see where we've been especially after its settled for a few days. We've run them in corn stalks but occasionally they'd ball up. We used to have a Better Bilt with the chisel points. We use hog manure for almost all our nitrogen needs and I'm convinced you don't want to bury it too deep as with the chisel shanks. That being said, some of the drag-line operators are running some sort of coulter applicator and I'm really impressed with the job they do. The points wear off the Dietrich sweeps too soon to suit me so we weld on another point but it leaves the soil rougher after we do that. I don't think the Dietrich sweeps last long enough particularly for what they cost. To me the cost per acre is way too high.
